I have had quite a few of you asking about where to get Zelda posters. I have been looking around online for a few days and most of the video game themed apparel I can find online tends to be cheesy licenses that where made to be trendy and appeal to the masses. You guys remember the little mini posters that used to come with games? I think almost all the best SNES games came with some sweet swag you could tack up to your wall to show off our extreme geekness to all. Not that we really worried about it though, as I am pretty sure the only people in our rooms were fellow gamers who where often jealous of any posters we had, Zelda or otherwise.

If find that most people are looking for two different types of Zelda posters. Most are just looking for cool licensed posters you can find just about anywhere. Here are a few examples of some of the best Zelda posters and wall scrolls I could find.

Amazon also happens to have a bunch of other SNES game posters as well as just some cool retro era posters for sales

The other type of poster people are looking for are much harder to find, they are posters that are no longer available because they either came with the games or they were inserts in old Nintendo Power issues and other gamer magazines, just like the one pictured in this post. These are a little more difficult to locate, they have a few on amazon, but you are more than likely going to be shelling out some serious coin for on sites like eBay.

Super Punch Out is a boxing game for the Super Nintendo. It was released late 1994 as a follow up to Mike Tyson’s Punch Out for the NES. Unlike its predecessor Super Punch Out did not have the endorsement of a pro boxer or the license for Mike Tyson’s likeness. It is actually the 4th game released in the Punch Out saga but only the second to be released in the US.

You again take on the role of Little Mac as you fight your way to become the world champion. You also again take on fighting from a point of view behind the main character, the difference this time if your character is slightly transparent with only the boxers gloves being opaque. This time around you have a much larger range of moves than NES Punch Out, while still keeping the game play simple and easy to learn.

The game was extremely entertaining with the exaggerated and colorful carton style of the characters. It also had highly detailed graphics for its time and was the first to heavily use transparency dithering throughout the entire game. Another unique feature of Super Punch Out was the ‘rage’ meter, the background would flash and Little Mac would have a nice bump to speed and power.

Little Mac was able to avoid attacks from his opponents by performing ducks and dodging to the right or left, there were also addition defense moves of blocking your head or your body. Most opponents had strong punches and ‘super moves’ that could not be blocked and could only be dodged. Super Punch Out also utilized the concept of counter attacks that were extremely helpful in defeating opponents.

Stamina meters are used to represent over health of the fighters and would decrease with every punch. The fighters are knocked down every time a punch caused the meter to go to ‘zero’. Little Mac could recover stamina while his opponent was down effectively able to recover health. You were able to defeat an opponent by either knocking them down three times for a TKO (also know as a technical knock out) or if the opponent was unable to stand up before the count of 10 after being knocked down, this was a KO. KO’s were usually achieved by using a ‘knockout punch’ while an opponents stamina bar was low.

I am getting all kinds of nerd nostalgia writing for this site. I just recently dusted of my old Super Nintendo and I am super stoked. This is not going to be top 10 SNES games list, like you see everywhere. Just my favorite games as I remember them. I can still remember how exciting it was to open a new game, there was so much more content, the manuals were a must ready back then, not just some crappy single sided insert.

Final Fantasy 3 (Final Fantasy VI)

Set in a fantasy world that had a unique blend of technology and medieval fantasy, think knights and kingdoms blended seamlessly with an advanced industrial renaissance, the game focuses on a group of rebels trying to overthrow an evil imperial dictatorship. I know it sounds cliche but the game is amazing, with 14 permanent playable characters and a very unique system of learning magic, this has to be by far my absolute favorite Super Nintendo game.I think I stayed up for 24 hours straight when I got this game. The funny part is I had never heard of the Final Fantasy series when I got this game, it was purchased on a complete whim. I was super nerdy and really into RPGs on the Sega Genesis and wanted to check this out. I have never had a story suck me in as like this game. I remember constantly wanting to play, not to finish the game, but to find out how the story was going to unfold, I was addicted. Definitely a graphical power house, I remember constantly being excited about the graphics during the boss fights. I still would always get pissed off about how often I would mess up a blitz when using Sabin and never actually being able to successfully pull off a bum rush more than a handful of times.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

I would have to say this is THE best Zelda title that was ever released. Immediately after typing out the name of this amazing game I had to strongly debate whether to continue writing to just stop and go play it. The games story starts as you as a young Link who is awakened by a telepathic message from the princess, Zelda. She is being held captive in the dungeon of Hyrule Castle. You awake to find your uncle ready for battle, telling you to remain in bed. Clearly being Link you ignore your uncle’s command and follow him to Hyrule Castle. You arrive to find uncle seriously wounded, and are told to rescue Princess Zelda from her prison, getting your uncles sword and shield. You navigate Hyrule Castle and rescue princess Zelda, and the two of you escape into a secret passage ready to start your story. There was a great game play twist of traveling between the dark world and light world, often need a combination of both to complete certain tasks. Harder to find game and very expensive when you do, but nothing less than amazing.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was released in the United States mid August in 1991. Since then there have been all kinds of controllers and Super Nintendo accessories have been released.

Super Scope 6 Light Gun

The Super Scope Six was released as the SNES answer to the NES Zapper. The Super Scope 6 was also the name of the bundled game that came with the light gun. Being that the Super Scope 6 had to be ‘calibrated’ everytime you wanted to place any games it received generally poor reviews in the US and had an extremely limited release in Japan, which is understandable, they were busy cranking some of the best RPG games ever made for consoles, so who had time mess around with old technology. I remember feeling really cool as a kid with a giant bazooka looking device pointing at the TV, I just wish they had made more games for it.

Super Nintendo SNES Mouse

The Super Nintendo Mouse was originally made for and shipped with Super Mario Paint in 1992. The idea at the time was to compete with PCs and bring PC gaming over to the console. The SNES Mouse was supported by several games, but was primary used exclusively with Super Mario Paint and never really took off outside of Super Mario Paint. Which for those of you that remember, Mario Paint was a very strange title, a very crude but effective version of photoshop that even let you make your own custom brushes and save your pictures to a VHS tape. Yes you read that right, I told you it was a strange title.

Super Game Boy

The Super Game Boy was released in 1994 and sold for about $60 upon its release. The Super Game Boy allowed users to play Game Boy games on their TV. This larger than normal cart plugged into your SNES like normal game but had an opening for Game Boy games to be inserted into the top. It also had the unique feature of adding color shading to the then grayscale graphics of the Game Boy.

Unfortunately long gone are the days of going down to Funcoland and grabbing up cheap used copies for your favorite Super Nintendo games. Fortunately I recently discovered that it is not had hard as I thought to find Super Nintendo games. The prices are not as bad as some of us would think, but the price really depends on how rare the game is and what condition that game is in. Collecting SNES games can be an expensive endeavor, as you are entering a passionate collectors market. A complete game with the box, and all the manuals can run you close to $100 depending on the condition. However, a sealed copy of even the most common SNES games and you start looking at the $400 dollar price range. Some of the best SNES games new in box (sealed) can cost over $1000, the most expensive game ever however is not a Super Nintendo game but rather the NES game 1990 Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition, which has fetched as much as $20,000.

Where can I buy cheap Super Nintendo games?

All is not lost though, most of us non collectors just want to play the game. I am not going to lie, I would love to be able to open a sealed copy of Secret of Mana, but I am not going to pay $1200 for it. So for the rest of us we can purchase most of our games from either Amazon or Ebay for under $20. I would also be on the lookout for garage sales and flea markets as you can usually find people getting rid of their old collections pretty cheap.

You will find when you are buying SNES games that some of the more common games like Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past are going to be more expensive due to the higher demand. Which as of this writing is going to cost you about $50 for a used copy.
